Advisory Board

evocatal is backed up by scientific and economic advisors with many years of experience in the sector, providing our firm with a wide range of expertise in both research and business areas.

The scientific advisory board includes renowned experts of different research fields of the life science sector, namely chemical scientists Prof. Dr. Manfred T. Reetz and Prof. Dr. Michael Müller as well as experts for biotechnology or biocatalysts Prof. Dr. Karl-Erich Jaeger, Prof. Dr. Werner Hummel, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Streit and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Hauer (Institute for Technical Biochemistry, University of Stuttgart).

Dr. Thomas Daussmann received his PhD in Industrial Microbiology from Prof. Wandrey's group at Jülich Research Center. During his career in industrial research, he developed several processes and technologies up to commercial scale in the White Biotechnology arena. Dr. Daussmann served as a founder and MD of JFC - Jülich Fine Chemicals. Following a successful M&A of JFC, he established the research unit of Codexis Inc. in Singapore. Today, Dr. Daussmann works as a consultant for Biotech Industry.

Dr. Drepper

Dr. Drepper
Dr. Thomas Drepper is head of the group „Bacterial Photobiotechnology“ at the Institute of Molecular Enzyme Technology (Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf).

Area of research:
Heterologous expression and sustainable production of high-value compounds using photosynthetic bacteria, anaerobically fluorescing proteins.

Prof. Hummel

Professor Hummel is head of the “Biotransformation“-group at the Institute for Molecular Enzyme Technology at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf at the Research Centre Jülich.

 

Area of research: Production of chiral alcohols and amines by biocatalysts.

Professor Jäger is Director of the Institute for Molecular Enzyme Technology at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf at the Research Centre Jülich.

Area of research: Bacterial enzymes, regulation of enzyme expression, folding and secretion of biocatalysts as well as directed evolution.

Professor Müller is Director of the Institute for Pharmaceutical and Medical Chemistry at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg.

Area of research: Asymmetric synthesis of low-molecular, organic compounds by enzymatic catalysis.

Professor Dr. Manfred T. Reetz (chairman) is direktor at the Max-Planck-Institute for coal research, Mülheim.

Area of research: Synthetic organic chemistry, selective catalysts and biocatalysts.

Prof. em. Riesner
Prof. Dr. Detlev Riesner is a Professor Emeritus for physical biology at the University of Düsseldorf. He was one of the founders of Qiagen N.V., and is the chairman of its supervisory board.
Prof. Dr. Riesner is also a member of the supervisory boards of Newlab Bioquality, AC Immune, Direvo and Neuraxo. He has acted as both a business angel and business consultant for various successful biotechnology companies.

Professor Dr. Wolfgang Streit (vice chair) hold the chair of Microbiology at the University of Hamburg.

Area of research: Novel biocatalysts from the metagenome as well as the investigation of bacterial communities in biofilms.
